The second block in the stitchery, Things With Wings, doesn't post until the 15th, but I have been working on the pieced part I'm planning around the first stitchery. You can see my rough pencil draft of the setting by downloading
block1.pdf on my pattern page. There is one element repeated six times in the setting. It's a square in a square that looks like this:
There's a .pdf for that on the same site linked above, simply called Square.pdf. From the picture, you can see that it is a four inch square, finished size, 4.5" unfinished. Cut one center square at 3-3/8". Do not cut this one bigger unless you think your seams are really off from 1/4 inch. The corners can be cut as 3 inch squares or even a little more, and you cut those diagonally. Stitch one on each corner and trim the block to 4.5 inches, making sure you have a quarter inch overlapping seam on each of the corners of the inner square. I am embroidering the little flower you see drawn, because things with wings need flowers. My setting blocks are greens.
The next stitchery will be up on February 15. If you finished the first one, these six little ones will give you something else to do (because I know you don't have a dozen other projects that are ongoing!) until then.
If you are doing the stitchery, drop me a comment. Include your blog link if you post it on a blog. I'd love to see what yours looks like. I've seen one and it was great!
