A Chance Meeting (For hesdead_jim)

Jim had just gotten her sore and bruised self in a relatively comfortable (i.e. not directly painful) position in her seat on the shuttle, and had settled in to nurse the hangover that just refused to let go. Then she heard an oddly familiar and obviously angry voice.

For a moment, she simply stared out into nothing. Maybe she'd hit her head harder than she thought last night and was staring to hear things that weren't really there. Because there was no way in hell he was on a Starfleet shuttle full of cadets, heading for San Fransisco.

A moment later, the familiar voice slumped down in the seat next to her, and warned her he might throw up on her. One look into those hazel eyes and she knew her mind wasn't playing tricks on her. It was him. It'd been close to ten years, but she'd recognize those eyes, bloodshot as they were, anywhere. Had spent more nights than she cared to count thinking about them and him.

He didn't seem to recognize her, though. She brushed off his warning with a weak remark about the safety of shuttles and apparently he'd gotten very good at ranting some time during the last decade. So she sat back and let him rant and wondered when the penny would drop and he'd realize who she was. If he ever did. Maybe he really had forgotten all about her...
