Hi folks,
It's been awhile, hasn't it? Grad school kind of sucks away your life. But I have a couple of cool things that I wanted to share with some fellow tmbg fans and some fellow knitters. First of all, you should all check out my new favorite npr show, To the Best of Our Knowledge. Their programs are thematic, like This American Life, but ( Read more... )

Wow, those socks are gorgeous! Now I want to make a pair of them. :P Lorna's Laces is definitely my favorite sock yarn of all-it's so soft and the colors are so lovely. It is expensive though. I've found that theknitter.com has a good selection of colors-it isn't as cheap there as on the site you linked to, but shipping is free (although if you bought a lot of skeins, the difference in price would wipe out the savings on shipping pretty quickly). She has a pretty wide variety of mostly high-end yarns at prices that are not excellent exactly, but reasonable in comparison to most places. And I've always been very satisfied with the service. Also, if you're considering flirting with a different sock yarn, she has quite a few others, including Mountain Colors Bearfoot, which is absolutely luscious. It only comes in variegated colors though. (Hm, I should post pictures of the lace knee-hi's I made with it.)

Anyway, as far as dpns, I swear by bamboo. I'm a pretty loose knitter so I tend to have a problem with metal needles sliding out. Bamboo holds on better, but is still smooth enough that I don't lose speed. And bamboo is definitely tough; I've bent many a needle but never broken one. My favorites are Plymouth; I also really like addi Natura, but those are $11/set, which is rather pricey (Plymouths are about $7 and are just as nice). Both of those come in a 6-inch length. I don't like Clovers much; they're too rough, and also they come in a set of only 4, which, you know-lame. :P

Yeah, I love knitting socks. :D
