Setting: After the Big Damned Movie

It was one of my favorite spots on Serenity, the deck between the pilot’s station and the cockpit windows. With a sandwich tucked under my arm and a bottle of beer in my hand, I grabbed an apple from the basket on the table to go along with my picnic. Serenity was quiet. It was late and everyone else had gone to bed. She was on autopilot, and I was on watch on the bridge which gave me plenty of time to grab a snack for some good quality alone time.

Made my way back to the bridge as quietly as I could which was damned quiet. I knew her like the back of my hand. I knew every rivet in the deck and every bit of wire poking out of a conduit. She was my girl, and I well and truly loved her.

I slipped between the pilot and copilot stations, and climbed down to sit cross legged on the smooth deck. It was like sitting in the Black itself. We were far from any planets, it was just a blanket of pearls on black velvet. Popping open the beer, I leaned back against the raised side of the pilot’s station and took a long slow cold drink.

This was Serenity. She was my home.
