This weekend should be a lesson on why one should not watch before bed or fall asleep to true crime shows.
Saturday I had a dream that I was either witnessing or a part of a kidnapping. I could see myself in this old house and trying to figure out how to escape. I figured out how to get into the attic or top floor and then climb out onto a tree limb. That was either where I actually got or where my plan stopped.
I think during all of this, my captor or potential captor was taking care of another girl he had kidnapped. At one point, I could see him murdering her in the attic (I believe...I saw the blood as I went to the window) and then transporting her to another location to dump the body. I think I was still imagining the situation and as I was in the tree, I wondered if I could hide there. If he came back, he would look for me and I wondered if the branches and leaves would be enough to hide me until it got dark and then I could climb down and run away.
Either way, I never found out because the dream ended. I did see or imagine seeing the guy come back and look for me in the house.
Then on Sunday, I dreamed that I was witnessing (almost like a movie) a family who had kidnapped a child. At some point before the dream started, they had kidnapped a little girl. Over time, they raised her like she was their own and had other children. For years they were on the run hiding her and themselves. Where the dream picked up was either right before they came out of hiding or right after. They had hidden anywhere they could and sometimes had had no house to live in. They apparently returned to a house they had once had and were working out arrangements and unpacking long packed boxes. Kids were running around. I'd say there were at least 10-15.
Meanwhile the kidnapped girl had become lost in the shuffle. There were court cases and such over this, but in the end the court had settled that the girl should remain with her captors. For whatever reason I can't remember. Things were returning to normal, but there was still backlash from their neighbors and the community.
I recall them going into town and having trouble with the members of the town and going shopping. They were also very poor and trying to establish themselves wasn't easy.
I have no idea where the dream ended. I recall the kids going to school and other incidents, but it played out partially like real time and partially like a movie.
I have no idea what spawned these dreams, but I won't watch true crime shows before bed again.
Last night I dreamed that I got a very large package for someone who no longer works at my office. I tried to figure out how to return it. Then for some reason, I decided to open it. It turned out to be several boxes taped together. As I detached each box, I discovered it was one of those lawn, light up nativity scenes. Then I was trying to figure out how to email or call her and tell her, "Your nativity scene was delivered here." How random.
I think my dreams are getting as messed up and strange as my friend, Melissa's.
