Initially, it kind of irked me a bit that Warner Bros. felt the need to run a Saturday morning Batman series for just a few years, cancel it and then immediately replace it with something else. A stylized take on Batman, called The Batman ended back in the Spring, about the same time Batman: Brave and the Bold was announced. But, I see this as a smarter move actually, and good for kids too. Well, despite that whole commercialism thing...
As a fan who's probably a bit more interested in the business than the entertainment quotient at this stage in my life, I think the decision to cancel and semi-reboot Batman in a movie year was smart. Plus, with several animated series under his belt that had a darker skew, this lighter team-up take on Bats is probably best for little kids who either 1) couldn't see Dark Knight or 2) didn't necessarily comprehend it but liked the explosions. And third, the team-up model that Brave and the Bold has always followed in the comics is held up here, creating some DC character synergy not seen since the Justice League series.
Did I mention the three teamups revealed in the trailer involve three characters that are some of my favorites in the DCU? Blue Beetle's a great update on the property, Plastic Man's a riot, Green Arrow's just my plain favorite next to Batman.
My little cousins will dig it. And I'll watch it with them if I have to babysit. I'll enjoy it more than the Wonder Woman movie that's coming out... that looks less exciting than Superman: Doomsday ended up being.
