RIP: Anheuser-Busch as we know it.

Jul 14, 2008 00:55

This is an incredibly sad day for America.

Anheuser-Busch has reportedly been bought up by InBev, a foreign brewer, making them the fourth largest consumer product company in the world.  Great for Guiness World Record, Almanac, Forbes and Fortune lists, but will it be good for American jobs?

READ MORE HERE <<< Trust me, I use that for links a lot, but read this article.  The deal seems quite bitter.

Let me just say... on a personal note, my Grandmother, who lived in the St. Louis area all of her life, would be devestated by this if she hadn't died a few months ago.  Thankfully the talks about this seemingly hostile (or at least sly) takeover didn't surface until about a month after.

SABMiller has already roughed up the other top American brewing company.  Now we have to look to Yuengling and Sam Adams I guess for American pride.

I have a distaste for all of this corporate stuff all of a sudden.  Anheuser-Busch will probably not get too fair of a shake in this Inbev deal (two seats on the board...?), and I'm kind of taking it personally.  That's the last thing St. Louis had pride in, after other giants like McDonald Douglas skipped town.  Now their boss is overseas...

bad stuff, business, news
