Old Navy (and Sears) suck.

So, a few weeks ago I went into an Old Navy to check the clearance rack (the best part of every store!), and I was thoroughly depressed when I left.

Gone are the days of the 70s pop, disco and club music, the bright colors and performance fleece.  Everything was plaid, prep and ugly.  The music was depressing. And worst of all, at 3 in the afternoon on a summer Friday (prime for teenage boys and girls), there were two employees and two customers on the store floor besides me.

I knew that Old Navy was dragging down Gap Brands, but this was really depressing.

I'm really curious what the marketing gurus at Gap are thinking, and why they're rebranding the chain to be something so... blah.

Is the end near?

In other bad retail news... Pier 1, Linens n Things, Home Depot, Zales, Foot Locker... all are closing lots of locations over the next year.

And lastly... after visiting Abby at work a few times, I declare that Sears really sucks.  The only way that company will ever stay afloat is if they remarket themselves as a retro-modern-chic department store.  The status their stores (and their mostly meh merchandise) are in is quite disastrous.
