I spent half my morning (and will spend half my afternoon) standing around waiting to film the arrival and installation of the new roundabout statue on Western Avenue in downtown Muskegon. I took some early B-roll of nothing happening, and the statue still hasn't arrived from Chicago. I hope it does soon so I can get out of here and on the water.
As I lugged the camera and tripod to my car to get it a few blocks closer to ground zero, I had a thought run through my mind. I don't know if I like video near as much as I thought I did. But, then again, another thought ran through my mind. I could take the camera and tripod, run away to somewhere, set up shop (get caught by the authorities), and make a living for myself. Working at Qonverge has taught me a few things here and there, most of which I can't spell back to you in text... it's more a sense of how to deal with clients, the cadence and length of deadlines, how much process goes into a final product, etc.
I still can't seem to Iris my camera sometimes, but I can mostly walk the walk when it comes to juggling things, working with clients and doing shoots. All the same, I have a long way to go to be better at this.
Time to go see if the new sculpture has arrived. I hear it's 4 stories tall and is supposed to be some sort of postmodern, streamlined, stainless steel interpretation of "Muskegon coming together".
So, it'll probably be a few brushed stainless steel beams, so far removed from anything visually recognizable that it'll just reflect light and look pretty, but not really stand for anything. Great. I'm ready for whatever comes after post-modern, when sculptures hopefully will actually look like things again!
