"Goodbye, my Sarah Jane."

Lately, I've been talking a lot about Doctor Who, usually all cheerful and excited because it is so damn awesome. Today, however, Whovians everywhere are mourning the tragic loss of Elisabeth Sladen, best known as the Doctor's fan-favourite companion, Sarah Jane Smith.  Sarah Jane was first a companion in the classic series, starting with the Third Doctor but spending most of her time with the Fourth, spending three seasons as a series regular.  Elisabeth Sladen returned in the role of Sarah Jane for the episode "School Reunion" i the second season of the new series.  She then starred in the Doctor Who spinoff children's show, "The Sarah Jane Adventures," which is delightful and heartwarming and just plain fun.  The fifth season stopped filming halfway through, presumably due to Elisabeth Sladen's health.  She had been battling cancer and passed away this morning.  She was 63 years old.  I have shed more than a few tears at this news.  I am shocked, deeply saddened, and my heart goes out to her friends and family.
