Some thoughts before I go

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm anxious. In less than 48 hours I'll be leaving for France. Need I say I have a big trip ahead of me. I think I've packed most everything I can pack ahead of time, now's just the time for the hard part. The part where I willing say to myself that this Spring will be different from the others and that all the things I've gotten used to at school, won't be happening.

I'm not going to be at Tech, I'm not going to be playing Broomball. I'm not going to be doing all that I usually do. I'm going to be in a foreign country, eating foreign foods, speaking a foreign language, and above all learning how to be with an entirely different group of people. It'll be good for me, considering it will basically be a fresh start. It'll be interesting to see how I learn to live with this group of people I'll be traveling with and the family that adopts me as their own while I'm there. I know I've changed from when I entered college.

But at the core of the matter is how do I really say goodbye to the friends I have here, saying I won't see you this spring like I normally do. Granted I've got plans to head up to Tech immediately upon my return to the United States, but its not the same, and I guess this time came and went during Exam week, as I can't see any of them now. I guess my thoughts are that its not goodbye, its I'll see you later and probably even before we all realize it.

I plan to keep in touch of course, Christine convinced me to get a webcam and to get Skype operational. Keri managed to convince me to get windows live messenger working for the same purpose and now I can communicate with my Mom through Sykpe as well. At the same time, I keep hearing horror stories about the internet in Pau, which I guess leaves me kinda scared as to how I'm going to keep in contact. I've got snail mail addresses for sending postcards, so I suppose that wil have to do. I've also got the ability to make calls on my phone (I should say my European cell phone)  and uploaded the numbers of those who I'd probably spend any length of time calling from Europe. I'll also have my normal phone and while unable to make calls from my normal phone I can beam additional numbers via bluetooth should I need it.

Still won't be the same though, I can feel it already just being home before this. My friends at home have been rather "busy," which for at least one of them involves a great deal of drinking. It just disappoints me and makes being at home more trouble than it worth most of the time. Besides, the one friend I still do spend any length of time with is leaving for downstate soon, I don't know exactly when, but once that happens there'll be little keeping me here. Maybe that'll be a good thing, there's oppertunities to do SYP at Tech, that may be something worth considering next spring, if for no other reason than to try and get time away from the family. I feel kinda bad leaving my brother behind though.

In the end, bout 30 minutes less before I leave for France to go.
