Let me say that i watched a lot of Doctor Who when i was little. Maybe this explains a lot. Anyway the new 9th Doctor (only one season? WTF?) combines the zaniness of the 4th, the sensitivity of the 5th, remixed with the ruthlessness of the 6th in episodes that borrow feeling from the Douglas Adams' (shada, etc) original ones. The new series pays homage to many little details of the original series, without being a copy. Rather than try to totally remove the campy aspects of the original, the producers seem to have incorporated it as a style of its own resulting in a clever mix of tongue-in-cheek humor. Now if crappy American TV would only carry it...
