I have just got to get one of those, what do you call them? The things with friends and hanging out and being with people who are not related to you by blood or marriage? Sometimes there's food/drinks and/or activities, or not. Sometimes it's just the people without the food or activities. I know there's a phrase to describe it, but it's been so long since I had one, it's hard to remember. :p
I guess not having one is partially (mostly!) my own fault for not putting myself out there more, climbing out of what some have eloquently termed my "fur lined rut" (thank you,
tma, for that little gem of a phrase). The other (much more miniscule) part of it is due to the general social constructs of the small, very Southern town I'm in. Most of the social life here tends to revolve around one of two (or, in many cases, a combination of the two) things: one's children and church. I don't have children and I don't go to church. This puts me at a bit of a disadvantage in meeting like minded people who might like to hang out with a couple of childless heathens.
EDITED TO ADD: And, just to illustrate what I'm dealing with here, I would say that at least 70-80 percent of the people I know participated in the "Support Chick-fil-a Day" event yesterday. :p
But, again, I take the lion's share of the responsibility for my lack of a social life because, while they may be on the RARE side, I'm fairly certain those types exist. Even here. :p I just need to make more of an effort, I guess. It's just so easy not to.
Anyway, though...happy Thursday. :)
