NFHCA Honors Five Field Hockey Players
08-Mar-05

The National Field Hockey Coaches Association recently recognized five Hood College field hockey players for superb academic achievement.

The NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year. The five players from Hood to be honored are junior Cheryl Banks, freshman Meghan Crook, junior Rachel Gauza, freshman Christa Lundskow, and freshman Christina Woody.

"Three of the five who were honored are freshmen, making the feat even more impressive,” said head coach Staci Thomson. “It's tough enough making the transition from high school to college, but adding the pressures of playing a sport to the equation can make the transition even tougher. Here at Hood academics come first and athletics come second, and to excel in both is quite an accomplishment.”
