possible RP for arrow_of_apollo or stuck_in_cic, or both, if they so choose to play

This takes place right after Galen gets out of sickbay after ADitL. He hasn't taken a page from Norma Rae's book yet and Cally's mouth hasn't gotten them into trouble yet.

Cottle had told him to go straight back to his quarters, especially since he was planning to go straight back to work after the eight hours of rest mandated by Cottle and reinforced by the admiral after hearing that he was balking the rest.

"We need you, Chief, but we need you and Cally both to take the time you need to heal. You're ordered to report to your rack and not leave it until Cottle calls you in the morning."

There was a time when Cottle would have simply browbeat him into following his orders. Then again, he would have responded to a browbeating by going straight back to work. Galen Tyrol may have had his crazy moments (and would probably have a few more of them in the future), but there was no way he was crazy enough to refuse a direct order from Admiral Adama.

Which was why he was standing right in front of Major Apollo's quarters, his hand raised and fist positioned to rap on the hatch. He paused for a moment, however, considering what he was about to do. Cally would have rathered Nicky be raised away from the front lines and if Galen was being honest with himself, he would admit that the idea held some appeal for him. But that would mean his son would be raised by strangers who barely knew him and Cally. If the worst happened and they were both killed in action, Nicky would not only not know his parents, but he wouldn't know anything about them, either.

He couldn't let that happen. Before leaving sickbay, he had briefly discussed it with Cally and after a few minutes of debate, she had come around. She wanted Nick to know how much they had loved him. Galen wanted him to know how he had talked about when Nick was old enough he'd teach him everything he knew, from someone who had actually heard him talk about it. Cally wanted Nick to know that she had brought him nearly everywhere with her at certain times, from someone who had watched while it was happening.

If they'd had enough nerve, they would have asked Admiral Adama, or the President herself to take him. Cally had spent a good deal of time with Laura Roslin on New Caprica and had grown to like and trust her very much. And the Admiral... Galen knew without a doubt that he would have looked out for Nick's best interests as if he was his own.

He suddenly wondered if it was fair what he was about to ask of Apollo and Dee. He hadn't heard definitively one way or the other, but Galen assumed that they planned to have children of their own at some point. Would it be fair to saddle them with someone else's child before they'd even had the chance to start a family?

There you go, you jerk, jumping to the worst possible conclusions. If Apollo and Dee don't want the job, they'll say it flat-out. And you know they'll help you find someone who would be able to raise Nick if they can't.

Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the hatch.
