So I seem to have two new fandoms.
On the left, we have Battlestar Galactica. Now up through Episode 3. ZOMG New!Apollo facing off with Old!Apollo. That was entertaining. I presume we haven't seen the last of Tom Zarek, of course.
I am enjoying it very much, and rather wish it had been around about seven years earlier than it was. It rather had the feel of the stories I wished to tell back on Wing Commander: Red Horizons. I'm not sure that having it there would have worked any BETTER -- let's face it, we were all mostly-young lads playing at telling Soldier Stories. Having one more bit of military SF that focused on the idea of fatigue, constant combat, etc, probably wouldn't have helped. Still! Still. It wouldn't have fixed the problems of competition, disagreements among the playerbase on the ultimate focus, etc, etc; all of that would've been better fixed with time and more maturity. Which makes me sort of want to revisit the idea of such a game -- if not in a MU* format, then in some other relatively larger-group format than a small-group tabletop; at the least, with a small group, it'd be Troupe Play, with each player having multiple characters... something to consider.
Jennifer and I celebrated our anniversary with the Pirates' home opener: which was a resounding victory over the L.A. Dodgers. A great deal of fun was had, though we're sunburned.
Maybe this year, the Pirates will at least come up over .500. Maybe ...
I'm looking forward to the ride, at least. There are some good players (Jones, knocking two home runs outta the park in his first two at bats), and some not so good ones (Cedeno, who spent the first half of the game playing weakly; he developed some in the second half).
I cannot deny I am especially gratified that Jennifer enjoys the games as much as I do. I'm always glad when a friend of mine shares an interest of mine; that this time it happens to be my wife is icing on the cake.
