see, over the weekend this happened

those are 2 power supplies that died within a week of one another with similar results
cpgeek
smoke and sparks and if it was on my blanket, could have burned my house down
cpgeek
now, normally, that wouldn't be a big issue, they'd just swap my power adapter, apologize, and call it a day.
cpgeek
however, I've brought this computer in to be repaired like 6ish times for 3 to 4 issues each time, and that's like 2 pages worth of repair history so i basically said "I didn't pay $1700 for workstation class hardware to have it break every time i sneeze, and I would appreciate it if you could do whatever is necessary to get me a replacement computer". the person i was talking to said that they weren't authorized based on the cases documented but that he would forward my case to executive customer relations and a product professional would call me later
cpgeek
2 hours later i got a phone call from a really nice guy named AJ, after we exchanged pleasentries he just said "so, Joshua, I just sent you a prepaid fedex label by e-mail for you to send in your machine, where would you like us to ship your new 2.4ghz macbook pro?"
cpgeek
so right now i'm backing up my hard drive
cpgeek
and i appologize for being so verbose, but like, i'm really caffinated and i'm working on backing up my gear so i can send this thing out in the morning
cpgeek
my faith in apple's support system has been renewed to a new level... these guys clearly DO NOT fuck arround
cpgeek
and it's also a hell of an upgrade
cpgeek
this machine is about 2 years old now, 1.8ghz core duo (32 bit), 1gb ram, 80gb hard drive. radeon x1600 256MB graphics chipset. the replacement has a 2.4ghz core2 duo (64 bit) processor, 2gb ram, 200gb hard drive, and a geforce 8600m which is powerful enough to run crysis
cpgeek
it will juuuust barely run crysis, but that means everything else i throw at it i can run at maxed settings
