I have to admit, it's getting better.

I preemptively assumed my entire birthday was going to suck.

For the daytime, it did. Exactly as I had had it scheduled in the livejournal (and my calendar), and then some.
Lowlights:
-Arriving 20 minutes late to my second appointment, sweating and out of breath, because the first appointment for which I had budgeted three hours of work plus travel (a) ran over, and (b) had the travel messed up by my own rank stupidity on the Metro.
-Sitting five feet from a raving derelict on the Metro ride home.
-Being with the same raving derelict for one additional stop because the doors did not open at my station, causing me to have to go one station further and then double back.
-Traffic (well duh).

But then the evening definitely showed a marked upturn in my fortunes. Cassie came home and refused to cook, as well as refused to have me do so on my birthday. So she treated me to a birthday dinner out. Don Pablos with all-I-could-eat fajitas and an ungodly huge margarita. But the spicy food and alcohol only awakened a raging sweet tooth, so I made Cassie stop at the recently opened Cold Stone Creamery on the way home, where I was going to just buy myself a small ice cream. The Devil, you say! I then spent the remainder of the night watching TV and relaxing, letting the paperwork pile up for today.

To top it off, last night in the mail, there was a mysterious envelope from Calais ME. One of my many outstanding mail-in rebates had arrived. And not just any rebate: A $50 Best Buy gift card. I'm just pretending it was a birthday gift instead of pleasant coincidence.
