Today's a busy day around the ranch. I have 2 tour buses of Japanese students (mostly girls) coming to visit the ranch. They come to the USA from Japan to visit the dog related businesses and the AKC Invitational in Long Beach. There are 30 people on the bus and they arrive and descend on the ranch in a big wave of girls with big smiles, peace signs and cameras :-)
Rebecca and Marq Cheek will come and do an agility demonstration at 10am and 2pm and Robin and I will do a herding demonstration. The girls will tour the ranch, meet puppies and dogs, see the sheep and ducks. This year Melody the turkey is here and I'm sure they'll get a kick out of her and the chickens.
They are always fascinated by the size of the property (18 acres) and by all of the orange trees. Unfortunately the oranges are still green and won't be ready for picking until next summer.
Marq is friends with Atsushi the tour organizer and interpreter. Marq had referred Atsushi to me when one of his clients was looking for a Border Collie a few years ago. His client, Megumi, bought Rod a Fleet x Mike pup who is now a little over 4 years old. Rod has made the trip back to the USA and will be visiting today. There is a sad back story to Rod going to Japan. His brother Sede was originally supposed to be Megumi's dog and he was killed at 6 months in a collar accident. He got his collar slipped over a latch to a gate and hung himself. That was a truly horrible day here and I know Megumi was very saddened by it even though she'd never met Sede. Sede is buried here on the ranch and I'm sure she will visit his resting place.
On a lighter note Megumi's agility trainer will also be bringing his dog and will be competing at the AKC Invitational. They're going to practice here today. Megumi's trainer is also getting a Euro x Clue pup and he'll get to visit and play with Franc today.
