Photo Dump, Part 1: Indiana

Nov 10, 2014 15:03

All right, I really need to post about my last two trips before I take the next two, otherwise I'll be 4 behind and ain't nobody got time for dat, right? So here's Indiana for your viewing enjoyment.

So I flew out on a Wednesday morning, and touched down in Indianapolis around lunchtime. I'd decided to spend the afternoon down around Nashville (Indiana, not Tennessee), about an hour south of Indy. Specifically, Brown County State Park, which looked like a nice place to explore. And it was awesome--it would have been awesome any time of year, I'm sure, but I was fortunate enough to be there for some utterly spectacular fall color. The main road through the park winds through forest and ravine, with some scenic overlooks here and there, and around every turn my jaw would drop a little farther. Just amazingly gorgeous. See?

I would have loved to hike for hours, but I really only had time for one good trail before sunset, so I decided on the CCC trail, a 2-mile loop featuring some of the work done in the park in the 1930s by the CCC. I love parks with that history, they always tend to be among my favorites. I really wish we'd had the wherewithal to respond to our recent Great Recession with similar programs, because what a win-win-win they turned out to be, even 80 years down the road.

Spot the chipmunk?

I adore these guys, probably only because we don't have them around these parts. I may well feel differently if that weren't the case. :)

After leaving the park I headed towards downtown Nashville, which is a lovely and kitchsy little community with lots of small arts and crafts shops. Along the way I saw a road called Covered Bridge Rd, and had to take a detour. Glad I did--it made for a heck of a photo, even in the rain.

The next day I mainly spent at the office (the reason for the trip, after all), but I had a little spare time between leaving there and needing to get to the airport, so along the way I stopped downtown for a quick stroll. I adore the Monument Circle area.

Then I headed over towards the Indiana State Capitol building, which I hadn't checked out before.

And finally, at the airport the very cool 1933 Essex Terraplane sedan once owned by John Dillinger had been replaced with a groovy 1930 (I think?) Auburn Speedster.

Thanks for looking!
