Photography - Week 2

Oct 07, 2010 09:16

Hola ya'll! Here's the second week of the photography class I did. But before we start, I want to list my awesome scores for the last term:

Ethical & Critical Thinking: 98.9
Human Relations: 97.8
Photography: 95.7

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! I almost got to my 99.6 record in my first web design class, too! I rock, baby. :D Next term, I take art history, psychology and audio/video, so I'm rather excited--especially about the audio/video one. If I'm reading one of my friends right who's already taken the class, I can do my first music video! Well, disguised as a commercial. OMG I hope so!!!

Anyway, moving on! For the second week of photography last term, we reviewed the elements of design (but this time applied to photography itself). I'm getting really comfortable with the elements finally, but I think I failed on some of these in the 2nd week. Anyway:

Emphasis

Line

Pattern

Err--sorry about that one. I don't like it either.

Rhythm

Shape

Space

This is an overlook (no fence at this point, lol) up on Wolf Creek Pass.

Texture

Unity

This is Treasure Falls up in Wolf Creek Pass. Legend says a treasure was lost here, hence the name.

Variety

Pretty sure I failed the variety shots. Everyone else seemed to agree, haha. It's just, unity and variety go hand in hand when it comes to design (and often, it's coupled together), so trying to capture these two elements separately confused me. The other element I had a hard time grasping was rhythm, but one of the other students helped me understand it better. More or less he said to think of the subject matter a pattern that "works to music." Obscure, I know, but I think I have a better grasp now than I did at this point.

It's also getting more obvious here that I like doing close-up shots more than anything, but at this point, I still wasn't using a tripod. I also think that someday, investing in a camera that I can change lenses on and getting a wide-angle/macro lens would be awesome. I have fallen in love with macro photography and have attempted as best I can with this camera. But more on that later... xD

But enough babbling! In other news, I'm officially in on NaNoWriMo next month, although I won't be treating it seriously. I think I'm going to use it as more or less a rampant writing exercise. Bob has gotten more and more visual as a muse, and this troubles me. Writing in itself has been close to impossible ever since taking on this design degree, and I don't want to lose the writey because the stories are still up in my noggin. So! I figure a massive force of flooding random crack for a whole month will be good for me. But ohmygod I'll be extremely busy. Between class, drama and nanowrimo, I probably won't even have time to sleep. For real.

But I can do it! If mothers in Africa can trek miles for water, I can do nanowrimo while going to school. So there. *puts on brave face*
