Some of you know this and some of you don't, but Friday night a murder occurred outside the cafe'I recently opened in Minneapolis. The only customer we had at the time and an employee and I tried to help, but the stab wound was efficient and he died within a couple minutes.
I won't gloss the fact that I was deeply disturbed by this. I was pretty damn catatonic after being up since 545am and not getting home from the police station until 130am the following day. I also managed to be a dumbass and not eat more than a miniscule amount of food. And there was no coffee--yes. really.
I had elected to keep the store closed on Saturday due to the mental health (or lack thereof) of myself and the same employee that were scheduled to work 8 hour shifts.
It was a damn good idea we stayed closed because on direction of higher-ups and the city councilwoman for the district the police took a hands off approach to allow the family and gang members resurrect a shrine to their fallen hero (insert any amount of sarcasm you wish). This led to a 12 hour fest of Blood/red shirts and drinking and pot smoking and forcing children to participate in all of the above...and graffiti all over my fucking building.
After the landlord and I spoke with the LT. in charge of the fiasco over the weekend we finally have made some headway. Tomorrow, after the fellow's funeral the family and mourners will NOT be permitted on site at all. More than 5 dozen officers will be on site in uniforms and not to contain the situation should anyone test the no-trespassing warning.
130am this morning 2 men sitting at the shrine were shot by another gang member who decided they were easy pickings. This has gone unreported to the press or at least unreported if they were notified.
845pm more shots fired at the convenience store across from my cafe'.
