..strike one..
Youtube copyright infringement Hell...
About a week or so ago I had some random bitch make a comment to my Youtube channel. See..I had posted John's documentary, "John Lennon: Love Is All You Need", in five parts. Two of those parts, however, contained scenes of Yoko. Being as I'm not exactly smitten with her, I decided to edit her out. I regret it, in hindsight, because, as a close friend would later remind me, it's censorship.. Believe me, much as I don't care for Yoko, I was conflicted. I wanted to honor my feelings and not come off a hypocrite..yet, I also didn't care that the integrity of the finish product was going to be tainted in some way by my editing/altering it.
In the end, my need to honor my feelings won out.. I never gave it a second thought. I posted the vids and even put in the description that I had "taken a certain person out of them".. The vid was up for awhile..and then about a week or so ago this girl posted to me that I should "grow up". Well..who the Hell was she to tell me what to put on my channel? She also posted again and said that I need to "grow the fuck up" (again), and that I shouldn't let that "other bitch" (to paragphrase) talk crap about Yoko. That other person was someone who just told it like (I felt) it was..so..SHE got to "stay".
I was so angry and upset that this person took it upon herself to talk to me like she was scolding a child that I gave "it" back to her..calling her "stupid"..telling her to "fuck off"..and telling her that I'll put whatever I *&^%$#$%^& want on my channel whether she likes it or not. I even belittled her..telling her that she should get a life and that she has the nerve to say anything when she doesn't even post videos of her own. (I went to her channel to "block" her and that's when I saw she looked to be a new YT member.
Yeah..when I get angry, I'm not exactly the epitome of "class". :(
Fast-forward about a week later and I go to go on my channel, and I get hit with a notice that I've received a copyright strike!..and it's for this exact same video this girl got in my face about!
Coincidence??
I had to watch an educational video on copyright infringement and answer questions before I could get back on my channel. They had removed the five-part vid and now my account isn't in good standing regarding copyright. Two more strikes and I'm suspended...for life.
I don't know how much to worry about this. My channel means so much to me..but, of course, there are things far more important, personally. It's just an outlet that helps me cope and makes me (and others) happy..and I'd hate to see all of my hard work vanish in a split second because either I piss someone off and they "retaliate" by reporting me for copyright, or EMI or some other legitimate source decides to flag me.
I contacted one of my friends for advice/reassurance and he had two strikes against him "long ago"..but his account is still standing. He's got four Beatle-related channels, actually.
..I'm just thinking on alternatives in case Youtube decides to give me the "boot". A couple of close friends told me not to worry about it..just continue to do what I've always done..so..I'm gonna try and trust them and we'll see what happens. I have the vid, "The Beatles from Liverpool to San Francisco" to upload, in fact..and they told me, "go for it"..so..I'm gonna throw caution to the wind..and if I get axed..well.. It was fun while it lasted. :/
