Finally the weather is fine in Germany,and we have to prepare a lot for holidays. End of week we will go to Florence/ Tuscany, so you can guess that RL is really taking it's toll at the moment for me.
Have to fill up my e-book reader before we go, have to look for some other things in the net....and have to wash, iron, collect all stuffs that need to be carried along.

The usual six weeks of Summer schoolholidays here. Kids have six weeks in summer, two weeks in autumn, two weeks over Christmas and NY and two weeks around Easter here in Germany. Each part of Germany at slighly different times, the North started already a week ago, the South will be the last in line this year. This is necessary because otherwise our whole country would be on the streets to get to their holiday resorts.

Oh! Okay! I guess in Europe they define it differently than "here" in America. When school was "out", we'd just say that school was done with and enjoy our summer..whatever that entailed. We never saw it as a holiday, per se..so, I took it quite literally the way you said it..lol. I thought you meant you had specific German holidays this time of year.

..and I can see having to have different "sessions" per parts of the country. It's the same here. In other States, school gets let out earlier or later in contrast to other States.

Alright....there are school holidays and public holidays like e.g. Easter Monday, God's Friday etc....to name a few. We say "Ferien" = vacations if school is out and "Feiertag" = public holidays. In British both are called holidays as well.
