Edit: Website link removed. It's currently getting a makeover.
Wow, that's probably about the worst site I've ever seen (besides MySpace).
Edit: Some bits of this were ranty, and that last point is completely unfounded. I'll leave them up here, but be sure to read the comments
I'll step you through it:
  1. The links are completely ordinary. No color, no ( Read more... )

Wow. Well, Kirady certainly leave an impression on one.. =:D But you didn't mention their mastery of advanced image linking, as demonstrated on the "Contact Us" page - notice how each map loads rather slowly?

Yes, folks: they're loading the full-size image, and letting the browser scale it down.

Egad.. I'm pretty much an HTML absolute beginner (but HTML5 looks absolutely nomworthy - finally, web fonts; and look at those vector graphics, without the massive processor load of Flash, and in a completely open format), and even I know what "image optimization" means.

I wonder if there's a Hall of Shame for web designers anywhere.. ^_^

Sorry if I sounded too harsh, as it's not like the over-coloured content-everywhere sites, but it is very... not 'disgusting', but more 'amateur'.

I'll admit I know very little about asp (I use PHP), but I really should have realized, either way, that it wasn't all "everything on one page." I think it was the fact that everything else was so quick-sketch that put the idea in my mind.

My main point was that only crazy people would hire you when you looked like that. I do look forward to the redesign, and I thank you for not going crazy angry.

Also, to your credit, "the worst site I've ever seen" wasn't all that bad (besides MySpace, of course, which I'd also mentioned), so that's why I could say it with all that truth. The nineties are over, and the web is looking far better for it.

Hey, no problem - Everyone will have their opinions, and in this case, I actually agree with yours. lol i think the site was more of an embarassment than anything, and I should've had more concrete ideas before deciding to post it for the public eye. It just wasn't ready for criticism, so you're definitely right to say that it had no color, barely any content, and that it was very "amateur".

I'd be interested in taking a look at some of your work, if you'd like to send me some links. I'd also appreciate it if you could remove the link to my site at the top of this blog since it's no longer up.

Thanks - I look forward to hearing back.

I think one of the first things I learned is to never put anything up until it's ready to be used.
That being said, I'm just finishing uploading a non-final version of my new website, with links to a domain that doesn't exist, into another domain that I currently have hosting for.

Hooray futureplans.

(http://icosidodecahedron.com is my blog/site, and I'll soon be moving business stuff to the aforementioned new site.)

Thanks for removing the link. Since I've been posting as Anonymous, I'm not sure how to remove the link that I put in my first entry. Any idea?

So what made you decide on "Icosidodecahedron"... wtf man, I actually had to look it up! I didn't check it out in detail, but looks pretty good for a blog site.

I noticed you're using a Gushi Systems to host your blogsite. How does that work out for you? I host my own content and client websites too. It's simple and convenient if you're not sure how to get things going. Best of all, it's great to have full control over your own servers & network.

Send me a link to your new site when you have the chance.

that's perfect, the comment's screened so I can't see it. thanks again.

hosting content has become more of a hobby than anything for me. It was a huge learning experience, but absolutely worth the time, effort and investment. It's pretty cool to have full control over my own email, web, sql, etc servers, and apart from the odd downtime, it's been a pretty reliable network.

just on a side note, i was checking some of your work last night, and noticed that the following link is down. You might wanna check it out...

http://embhousewpg.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi

The danger here is that your error page displays the entire SQL query and a potential attacker now knows that there is an "ib_active_sessions" table in your database. This very likely opens up a tunnel to your database by either injecting the user logon prompt or the URL. Just a friendly heads up. I'm also guessing you don't want to hear my criticism on this site... ;)

I've had to work with apache and localhost so I could test my PHP pages on my own machine, so I'm sure I've learned a quarter of what it takes, and it's fairly annoying.

UGH. I didn't change anything, so I'm not sure why the forum isn't working. I also know about the dangers of having SQL out there like that, which means I'll be fixing this IMMEDIATELY.

Do I want criticism? The answer is two-fold:
1. I do
2. I know how awful that site is. Some of it is the product of two months ago, and the client didn't like a couple things that I then had to take out. I'm also using javascript to load the clothing, which is a no-no. Still, have a go, but don't call me names or anything.

Also, the forum is an ikonboard (obviously), so I'm assuming everyone knows which tables it uses. The danger is if it accepts injection, which is something I've only done a light reading on.
