So I just got back from my interview. There was, in fact, a written test - I had to proofread a couple of letters to the editor. One of them was overwhelmingly awful. The other was rather less obviously full of mistakes. I'm less worried about the awful one than I am the less obviously screwed up one, as I think it's the subtler mistakes that matter a bit more.
Beyond just that, though, I...don't think I killed. What news do I think the paper should be covering that it isn't? I don't know. D&D and porn? I can only hope that the other individual interviewing against me sucked even harder.
Even if I don't gain the position, I'll likely have another few hours of work each week - the parent paper didn't want to spring for a full-time position, so eight hours were cut from the staff writing job to avoid health benefits. That extra time's going to wind up in a freelancer's hands.
Regardless, there apparently won't be a follow-up interview. I'll probably know if I have the job later today or Monday at the latest.
