why i hate cell phone companies
I seek advice/help/commiseration
I just bought a palm treo 600 off someone secondhand.
It's been used by an ATT customer and I'm with cingular. (they are the same now..)
SO of course my little sim card doesn't work right off w/ the phone so I call customer service. They say all I need is a little unlock code to get it to work.
Fine. great!
so I call them the next day looking for the code and they say 'oh it's already unlocked' (it clearly isn't). So they try again, same response. Finally I get escalated to tier 2 and a long story short they say for legal reasons they can't give me the unlock code. (and i'm working on questioning their legal reasons)

So basically, they are assholes. and they were totally misleading because everyone i talked to said oh yea it should be fine to unlock the phone.
So i have choices, try to figure out ways to continually harrass Cingular. Or maybe try one of those places that unlocks phones. I found one that will do it for $35.. which is a lot.. just to run some stupid computer program.
Does anyone know anywhere that'll do it cheaper? advice?
