Too Late for Me, but Good for Others

Penn will pay tuition for poorer families

"The University of Pennsylvania said Thursday that it will pay tuition and room-and-board for students whose families earn less than $50,000 a year."

If I were still in Philadelphia, I would drop everything else and re-enroll for classes. I'm over 24, so my parents' income no longer applies. (Not that much of it ever went to actually paying Penn when I was in school... but that's another tale.) The grant applies to current (as well as incoming) students, and I'm still technically a student at Penn. (For now.)

I wonder... how long before people get upset that they raised tuition to support these grants? Never mind that tuition rates have always supported financial aid.

I hear one "free ride for poor people". Can I hear an "affirmative action"? Going once, going twice...
