Road Trip

All I know is, those that were not there missed out on a lot of spontaneous fun.

It all started with a trip to the west side to play some pool with Chris. I meet up with Mickey's and watched a few games get played. I was getting bored there so I suggested that Chris and I go to Perkins and get a bit to eat. We get are order and get are food. As we are sitting there eating I made a smart remark why don't we go to Canada. (Don't remember why, other than maybe Chris said "where do you want to go now?") After think about it I realized that I had enough money for a road trip and both Chris and I had Saturday off. After talking Chris into it we proceeded to prep for the trip. We stopped at his car and picked up some CD's, and proceeded to Best Buy to buy a road trip CD. About 8:30pm we had are CD's and headed "North to Canada". Why go to Canada? Well to tell you I wanted a road trip and Canada is rather close. I had never been out of the country and Chris had never crossed the north border. Plus we went for no reason other than to go. The trip up was mostly Chris and I talking and giving each other crap while listening to the radio or CD's. Once there we had a few events unfold. We get to the border at Intl. Fall, MN (and thanks to NAFTA we don't need passports). We have to pay a toll at a bridge, of course we don't have enough cash. We turn around and go back a few blocks and hit an ATM. After going back and paying the toll we go across the bridge to Canada. On Canada's side was a Customs check station. Being that it is 6:00 am on a Sat. morning there is no line. We pull up, a camera takes a pic of the license plate and the Customs Officer takes our ID's and asks a few questions. He then has us pull around to the inspection area and wait. We sat there for about 10 min or so, our best guess is that they were checking for warrants. They come out and have us get out of the car. Keep in mind that we have been on a road trip for hours. We got and didn't have our coats and had to sit outside for about 5 mins while they check a few things out. Then they were nice enough to give us our coats. They spend a few more minutes checking the car out and let us go. After asking a few questions about "Duty Free" and where this were. The goal was once we go there I would find a "Canadian trinket" too buy. The trouble was nothing was open and had that kind of stuff. In fact the only places open where a donut shop and a gas station. The station didn't have anything... it didn't even have Canadian beer. What was funny was that everything was metric I had to drive in kph. I was really wanting a "liter O cola A". We sent... maybe 30 min. in Canada before coming back. The the trip back had a good spin. On our way back we crossed over the same bridge, but no toll this time, to the US Customs office. Pulled up to the window and a camera took a picture of my license plate. The Customs Agent took our ID's and had me pull around to the inspection area, and then come in. We got in and filled out a little paper work and gave him the key to the car. Two agents went out side an tore my car apart. While an agent asked us to come over to an area one by one and hand over our coats, that we still had on, and empty out our pockets. The outside agents took all the stuff out of the car and moved and took the item to a building to look through things. After about 15 mins or so the outdoor agents put everything back in the car. And came in to ask questions. They needed to know what my license plate meant and what was the radio under the seat and a few other things. After all the questions they let us go. We were now on our way home. We were tracing the same route back as we took up. Chris was making fun of me as I was spotting little one room cabins in the trees by the road. Unlike the trip up, where we just snacked, we stopped at a Country Kitchen in Virginia, MN (about have way from border and Duluth, MN) at this point I started making calls let people know where I was and what we had done. After breakfast we were back on the road. We bypassed Duluth and head for the twin cities. Chris was able to get a hold of Nate whom happen to be in the Aspen Alps snowboarding. Nate invited us to come down and say Hi and we would go and do a few things. Something that I want you to keep in mind, is that we haven't mentioned anything about sleep. At this point in time Chris had been up for something like 30 hours, myself I had broke 24 hours. On the way to St Paul I ran into a little trouble, my breakfast was not agreeing with me. I had to make a few stops to go the bathroom. Chris says that we wasted an hour and a half, I say it was more like an hour, but anyhow after a little delay we made it to the hotel that Nate was staying at. Nate was not there, but he had left a key at the front desk for us. After freshing up, we went to find Nate. We headed for the Alps to see if he wanted to get a bit to eat. We go to the Alps and just as we pulled in Nate was pulling out. We stopped him and we all decided to go to the Walmart and get swimming clothes. I had mine, but Chris, Macalla and Sterling needed something to wear. After some crazy driving to keep up with Macalla's Benz, we made it. They got what they needed we went back to the hotel to swim. After "swimming" for a few hours. After swimming we went out for supper. We found a really nice place call "Riversedge". We all spent about $20.00 on are meal. The place had a bar attached where we played a few games pool. After there we went back to the hotel, Macalla had a little too much wine. We put Macalla and Sterling to bed and the three of use guys went to the hotel bar to shoot pool. We where there for about 30 mins when they decide to go to a better bar. I didn't want to go so I told them that I was going to stay and sleep. This was about 9:30 pm. I went back to the room and I decided to get my swimming stuff and go swim for a bit. I went to the pool for about 45 mins and then went back to the room to take a shower. After my shower I decide that I was going to head on home. Called Chris and let him know that I was going to head home, Chris had an offer earlier in the night to get a ride from Nate, so I took Nate up on it. So I headed home. After getting south of St. Paul I started getting tired.... just what I was expecting. I pulled over at a rest stop and slept for 3 hours. I woke up and headed home.

THE END.
