First Night [Action]

Mar 04, 2010 16:25

[In the middle of the previous night, a note will be left under the door of Clark Kent.  It reads as follows:]

Clark,

There are urgent matters to discuss.  Be on top of Community Housing 7 at midnight.

[The note is not signed and not dated.  Mysterious letter is mysterious.  The only question is whether or not Clark will meet him there at the ( Read more... )

[Derek is on his way out into the forest, and even though he doesn't seem to be trying to be furtive, he's definitely keeping as silent as possible and keeping his trail covered as he goes. He doesn't seemed to be armed with much more than a hunting knife and some rope.

There does seem to be something vaguely feral about him, though. Maybe it's the way he'll occasionally stop to close his eyes with his head cocked and...is he sniffing the air?]

[Batman makes sure to stay downwind of this man. That's a key component of tracking, but he's a little surprised to see a human attempt to track by scent, given how weak the human olfactory sense is.]

[Derek will go on his business, unaware for the moment that he's being tracked. He's intent on his own quarry, which should soon be coming out of their homes...

But he's intent on finding them first.

Eventaully, he makes his way to a copse of trees, framed at the roots with thick brambles. Derek stops, crouching, and inhaling deeply again before lowering his head to the ground, one ear pressed carefully to the soil.

After a moment, seemingly satisfied, he quickly sets up a rope trap near one of the holes, and then fades back into the surrounding bushes, crouching down and waiting, deathly still.]

[Hunting game. Strange methods, but the simplicity will likely make it effective. For now, just going to see how much success this man has...]

[It takes a while, but eventually the rabbits that live below make their way out of the burrow, the first few avoid the trap simply by dint of going around it. Another actually stops to sniff the rope, but neither sets it off or disturbs it as it goes on its way.

Derek remains where he is, watching them, waiting until they've settled a bit away from the warren. Once they've settled, though, Derek finally shifts his position a little, before suddenly standing up.

As one, the rabbits freeze and then bolt back for their hole. One of them runs right across the loop, and, with a startled squeal, is hoisted into the air as it's mates make their dash for safety.

Derek makes his way over, carefully wrapping the rabbit up in his jacket before gently loosening the noose and getting the creature free of the trap. He gives the rabbit a sad look...]

...sorry about this...

[And with a sudden jerk, he breaks its neck, killing it instantly. Within a few minutes, he's moved away from the rabbit warren, making his way to the river side before ( ... )

[...A man who shows remorse for the game he kills. But why would he hunt at all if so much food is available in town? Unless he needed it for something.

Or maybe he doesn't trust the food in town. After watching him clean the rabbit, Batman will turn to leave if nothing else suspicious happens immediately.]

[Derek will pause once he's done, looking around carefully before quickly cutting the meat into small pieces.

...and then eating them raw.]

[Okay, that's not normal at all. Clearly something is up with this man. The feral tracking, the devouring of raw game? But what? Still... he didn't appear to be mentally unbalanced or sociopathic. He's a man to watch, but for now, Batman's going to take his leave. There will be more to look into later, no doubt...]
