Summary: Jordan takes Brian to a concert

“You’ve never been to a concert?” Jordan can't believe I'm serious, but I honestly don’t know what to say.

“No?” It isn’t really a question. “I’m just not that into music. Concerts just seem so… overrated.” But that isn’t it exactly. Sometimes I hear the girls in my school screaming about going to see their favorite pop act. I can’t imagine what those concerts are like, probably just an elaborate show with the girls constantly screaming. Those bands all sound the same, overproduced and not very interesting. I have better things to do than listen to the radio. Sometimes my friends talk about seeing the bands they like and they always go on about how crazy the crowd is and how you can barely hear yourself talk afterwards. Either way, it just sounds so overpowering and draining. No thank you.

“Come on, you don’t have to be into music to enjoy a good concert. You haven’t really lived until you hear live music.”

“I’ve been to the symphony and stuff,” I’m getting a little annoyed. How many times do I have to say I’m not interested?

“It’s not the same.” I know she’s getting frustrated at me. “One of my favorite bands is in town this weekend. I promise it won’t be too crazy. It’s not that kind of show. Say you’ll come.”

“Alright,” I sigh. I’m willing to try it out at least. We can always leave.

She comes a little closer to me. “Are you worried?” I know why she was asking; crowds aren’t exactly my strong suit.

I just stand strong. “No. I’ll just stay close to you.”

All too soon, I’m standing in the crowd, waiting for the band to start playing. Whatever I’m expecting, the concert isn’t that. I can tell the small auditorium is only half full and the crowd is really chilled out. My friends always complain how they get shoved around in general admission concerts and sometimes people actually crowd surf. I can’t even imagine trusting a bunch of strangers like that. No one is shoving or anything like that here. Some of the band’s songs are sort of familiar, in that I’ve probably heard them somewhere, but I have no idea who they are. They are interesting, not the type of music I listen to (if I ever care to listen to music). But there’s something about the band… I can feel their brave energy to play their music no matter what. It’s obvious that they’re really enjoying themselves and they’ll probably do anything to perform. It gives me some sort of strange hope in a world of darkness.
