The Lighthouse, Friday Evening

Sep 18, 2009 19:07

The grill was fired up, a bonfire was lit, and there were cold drinks in several coolers. Tully had spent the day preparing and supervising the installation of the light in the top of the tower. The final touch to the restoration of the site.

Now was food, drink, and music.

[Party is open to all of course. Please wait for some OCD is up.]

Eat drink and be merry! There are grilled steaks and sea bass, burgers and hot dogs. Drinks both alcoholic and non.

There was also music. Some of it wasn't even Jimmy Buffet or Willy Singer.

Sweets decided he needed to get out and meet people and a party was a good way to do that.

So here he was, with a beer and a burger.

Jack waved at him with the hand that was holding his beer. "How's it hangin', stranger?"

"Can't complain," Sweets replied. "Dr. Lance Sweets, new guidance counselor up at the school," he introduced himself, shifting his beer to the crook of his arm and wiping the condensation from his hand before holding it out.

"Oh, these kids don't need guidance," Jack told him. "They need leashes. Good luck with that." He set his beer down and shook Lance's hand. "Jack O'Neill, Airforce. I've got a boat for rent here while I'm on leave."

Sweets laughed. "Well, I'm doing the best I can. I certainly wasn't trained to provide support to kids from the past or other planets or what have you."

He shifted his beer back to his hand and took a drink before continuing. "A boat, huh? Might have to come and check that out."

"Good for fishin'," Jack explained. "Come, check it out, that's what it's there for. Bring your own beer, though -- I'm not sharing mine."

He gave Sweets a sympathetic look. "A job like that, you can't be trained for. Just do it the best you can. Ask me how many times I've saved the universe from evil aliens. Go on, ask me."

"Okay, how many times have you saved the universe from evil aliens?" Sweets asked.

Jack shrugged. "Dunno. I lost count."

Then he took a swig of his beer.

"I didn't realize the Air Force was in the alien protection business," Sweets remarked.

"They do in MY universe, anyway," Jack replied. "It's top secret, classified, and all of that. Don't tell anyone."

"I work for the FBI so I'm good at keeping secrets," Sweets assured him.

"So, what's it like saving the world from aliens?" Sweets asked. "Do you get to use all those cool weapons like on Galaxy Quest?"

"No, a P-90," Jack answered. "And C-4. Nukes, when we have to. Since when is real life EVER like television?"

"Well, you know, until I got here, aliens were just a TV/movie/book thing, so..." Sweets shrugged.
