Cut closing times reflects state of economy?

Even the KMart in town locks it doors half an hour before it's supposed to officially close. Also one can't seem to get a made-to-order dinner after 9-9:30pm on a Sunday (except for the take out Chinese). The Pricechopper still had left over rotisserie chicken but it was sort of depressing seeing the dearth of cars in the plaza parking lot at that time. I believe this reflects 2 things:

1. Swing shift work positions being cut
2. Young people aren't spending their disposable income (although I did see a lot of cars at the famous bowling alley).
