The first semester was weird and uber busy as predicted. I tried for memorizing my jury music, plus the music for my voice jury. I'm bad at memorizing music and didn't expect to be -that- bad, so I didn't work hard enough and both were failures. It was a learning experience.
I wasted my time in conducting lessons, as expected and unfortunately. I'm still just not that interested in conducting things.
Piano lessons were probably the highlight of the semester.
I submitted three proposals to conferences and all three were accepted, which was amazing and startling. The first conference is next weekend. I'm almost prepared. Two conferences are for flute stuff, the third is my Liszt paper. It's all very exciting.
My future is dim and blurry right now. I have two internships in my sights, and I need to look for other things. The plan is to follow Kyree, wherever she ends up teaching, and trying to be a musician from there. Our intended locale will either be Columbus or NE Ohio; both are musical and have potential, but that coming to fruition remains to be seen.
This semester is rough so far. I had to push back my recital because one of my pieces was intimidating me into not practicing over break. The uncertain future doesn't help.
I sent in the check to payoff my car, which is fantastic. That also makes my budget almost perfectly balanced. That's good, but I really need to get a job so I can start saving money for the move/uncertain times. I have an app in at Lowe's, I also have an in there, so we'll see what happens. Apparently they will pay you more if you have education, which means it might turn into a pretty alright job.
A new development in my life is a mild interest in politics. I actually read the news consistently to follow things and have an idea what's going on. The Trump presidency has done one good thing so far, I guess--he's getting more people into politics/paying attention to politics, which is incredibly important. I doubt he'll "drain the swamp", but I hope he shows people that non-career politicians have a shot. Granted, you still have to be rich and well connected, but I imagine more people have a chance now due to social media and crowdfunding and what not. Those institutions make the dissemination of information and money very easy.
That's it for now. I have a bunch of housework and conference prep to do the rest of the evening.
