how dare they try to end this beauty

So, I think 3 or maybe 4 years after recieving the box set as a present, I finally watched all 14 episodes of Firefly.

Huh. Good, ain't it.

I realise it's a remarkably ancient debate, but I can't think why the show got cancelled. Admittedly Objects In Space was imo by far the best episode, but that's why you need to give these things time to get ( Read more... )

The movie didn't surprise me. There were things that I didn't expect going into it, but to me it telegraphed several of the developments ahead of time. I still loved it (obviously).

Obviouly it didn't surprise me... as I'd already seen it. But yeah, there wasn't much that was super shocking - that's why I expected Miranda to be earth-that-was to make things more powerful, I think. But it was good.

♥ I more or less expected Miranda to be what it was. Not to say that I was expecting a planet of antidepressants gone horribly wrong, but I did expect a well-covered-up outpost. I suppose that was one of the weaknesses of the movie, that it never took that leap from twists you would expect based on the clues Whedon laid out.

I would have liked more of the gaps from the series filled in, too. Book's backstory before he got killed maybe, and I hear Inara was dying. Maybe they could have killed her instead of wash (out of all of them, she is the one that kind of bored me >>). I would have liked one more film, maybe, to round some things off.

There is a pretty cool convention here in october called Hallowhedon XD

Yes, I would have liked more gaps filled in, too. I hadn't heard the Inara theory. Some of the criticisms I read were that Serenity wasn't much more than a two-hour-long television episode, which I can agree with as long as it doesn't come with the assumption that it was bad ... just less than it could have been.

Really?

The actress who played her said at a convention that she was dying. Something about how the other companion said she hadn't aged, and the reasons she left her former temple. My main crit with serenity was that it didn't have a big enough plot. Because it was based on the TV show they had to re-establish a lot, and that took time that could have been given to a more rounded story. Things were skimmed over a bit too quickly and without the development they could have had. But it was better than nothing?

Yes! Nicholas Brendon is the first confirmed guest. I would go, but there isn't really anyone here to go with.

That sums it up. The novelization might have said more, but I thought it was poorly written and didn't get past the first few chapters.

I'm sorry. :( You know I would go with you if there were not an ocean between us.

I tend not to take novelisations as canon, anyway. IDK if they're meant to be canon in the whedonverse, but some of the buffy novels were dire, so I hope not.

Maybe it will dry up in time.

I take some of them as supplementary material to think about.

Don't say that. I keep watching disaster science shows.
