Doug Liman Blog: On The Set of 'Covert Affairs'

Two weeks ago I posted parts of a blog entry by Doug Liman about working on 'Covert Affairs'. In the meanwhile he posted a second blog post with the title 'On the set of Covert Affairs'.

[...] Last Monday, after landing in Toronto, I went straight to the elevator scene and spent the whole day going over every aspect of that shot with all of the department heads. It was definitely my favorite day producing ever. I got to creatively get involved in every decision and then I got to leave and let everyone else work 15-hour days actually implementing it. [...] In one scene there's a dead body and a discussion came up about what the body should look like. This is the sort of decision that sets the tone for a series: Gory? Bloody? Are you going to see the eyes? The makeup person started describing to us what a dead body really looks like, where it's red and blue etc, and the supervising director, Jonathan said, "I know all too well what a dead body looks like." And all I'm thinking of is, "Oh, this guy must have been in Haiti, when I was down there" and just as I'm about to say that, Jonathan continues: "I worked on CSI for years."

The absurdity of my life came into focus at that moment.

That night, I grabbed a quick dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant in Toronto with the leads of the show Piper Perabo and Chris Gorham. To be completely honest, I sat with them, ordered and then took my food to go in order to fly home but I find both of them very entertaining and wanted to hang with them as much as possible. [...]
