Tuesday May 19th
I think to anyone who lives in southern California, meeting someone who has never been to Disneyland is always strange. Maybe Vegas, maybe but evvverrryone has been to Disneyland!! When I found out Blaise had never been it was in my top 2 places he had to go. (The other being Vegas, lol)
I searched high and low for ticket deals and the best I could find were the tickets from Vons. For the cost of 1 ticket 9which is now like $70) you got tickets to BOTH parks. (Disneyland & California Adventure) However, the catch was that you couldn't visit them on the SAME day. =/ It was the best deal we could find though. So of course we had to do Disneyland first. :)
Mercy dropped us off around 10am in front of Downtown Disney, there really isn't an easy drop-off area for Disneyland anymore. I remember when you could park like 100ft away from the main gates! Before all the tram nonsense. So anyway, he got a quick glimpse of Downtown Disney as we walked to the main gates of Disneyland.
I think I was more excited them him to be going. =p He was plenty excited but I'm such a Disney geek...I can't help it. Plus I was super excited about being able to take someone who'd never experienced it, a Disneyland virgin if you will...lol
We took some pictures at the main gate then walked down Mainstreet U.S.A, as I rattled off trivia and facts like a true nerd. We got to the end of Mainstreet, I whipped out the map and asked him where he wanted to go first. Of course he couldn't decide so I think we ended up going on Indiana Jones first. =p That always seems to be first ride anyway. (I guessed correctly which room we were going into too, yay!)
After that we went through New Orleans square, which is a replica of the French Quarter and asked Mr. Louisiana if it was a decent recreation..he said. yes. =p We went on Pirates of the Carribean next where I learned he was a bit afraid of drops and stuff. It felt very strange being the "brave" one for once and the one reassuring someone. Disneyland is the only theme park where you'll see me in that role. lol
We also went on the Haunted Mansion and tried not to act too much like crazed teenagers...because I really did want him to experience the ride. Ok..that sounds wrong..I'm just going to stop. LOL We walked down to see how the line for Splash Mountain was and it was a bit long cause it was early afternoon...I told him we should just wait it out a bit. (Also I still had to convince him to get on the ride.)
By this time it was 2ish and we were hungry so we walked around trying to figure out what to eat. In the end we decided on Reds Pizza Port in Tomorrowland. Food is sooo expensive at Disneyland! We each got a soda, a slice of pizza and I got a side salad and it was almost $30! I can't imagine taking a bunch of little kids.
We bounced around the Tomorrowland area getting on Star Tours and the Autopia (I let him drive). We also got on the re-vamped submarine voyage ride which is now the Finding Nemo ride. It wasn't too bad and they still have some of the stuff from the submarine voyage in there. The ride was cute though, I'd probably liked it even more if I'd actually seen Finding Nemo.
It took some convincing but I got him on Space Mountain and he loved it. My only qualm was that in the picture he was HIDING. lol The new music on space mountain is good but I like the old soundtrack better. We really picked a perfect day to go as the lines were not super long. it wasn't empty but we didn't wait 2 hrs for main attractions (as I have before). We couldn't do the fast pass thing cause I didn't buy the tickets there, bah.
The day was hard to remember because we kept bouncing around like crazy. I know we passed through Famtasyland and got on the tea cups. While we were on the tea cups I thought we'd ridden the full amount of time but apparently they cut our ride short because there had been an earthquake! Welcome to California, Blaise! =p We didn't feel it though. =/
They did not announce there was an earthquake...we waked to It's a Small World and that was closed too. I started to get suspicious...we ended up sitting down and having frozen lemonade waiting for the rides to reopen. In that time I called home and they said there had been an earthquake, which explained why most of the rides had shut down. They have to check them and reset them, etc. So we ealked to Toontown and luckily the Roger Robbit ride WAS working. :) We got on that then did a little Toontown shopping.
In all my years of going to Disneyland I had NEVER bought myself a pair of mouse ears! I knew Blaise had to get some so we both got a pair. Awww :) How cute and couplely we were. After that we left Toontown and It's a Small World was working again so we got on that. They had made some changes recently but they were hardly noticeable..they just randomly threw in Disney character dolls here and there.
The day wore on and we went to Innoventions, which I had also never been to. Blaise fell in love with a voice activated sink. lol (Neerrd.) We also made our way to Big Thunder Mountain and a few other spots along the way. I don't know where the night went but sooner then I knew it was almost time to leave. We had just enough time to get on Splash Mountain. =p
The whole time I was convincing him not to run off, explaining to him by the time you're done screaming it's over. They sat us right in the front too!! LOL What are the odds? He survived but it was so late they weren't doing pictures anymore. =/ Aww. The only BAD thing was that for some reason the water smelled HORRIBLE and it got on our clothes so we stunk. Ugh, I've never had the water smell that vile!! I had to wash all the clothes the next day because they were smelling up my room..foul, foul, foul.
Mercy was going to meet up with us in Downtown Disney so we did a quick run through of it. We hit up Sephora, Build-a-Bear and vault but I didn't buy anything. We were hungry so we decided to try the New Orleans cafe. I got gumbo and it was pretty good. :) Blaise said it was just OK. lol However we got beniets and they were DELICIOUS. It turns out that they're made from a Cafe Du Monde mix..the place we ate them at in New Orleans! So that explained why they were so good. I took some home for my parents to try out...they liked them too.
Mercy met up with us while we were finishing up eating and we left shortly after. We were both sooo tired! Not too long after we got home we both crashed out and went to sleep. :) We really did have an amazing time at the happiest place on earth.
Welcome to Disneyland!
