The old door creaked on unoiled hinges. The room behind it was very cozy. There was a little fireplace to the right, and bookshelves on the left. In the middle of it all stood an oaken desk of the type that we have seen many before. On it, many magical artifacts with papers stuck in between them wherever there was place. Above the fireplace hang a stuffed alligator. The fire lit the room with warm flickering light, making it even cozier. There was a grand chair behind the desk with the university’s crest sculptured at the top of the back support and stuffed leather on the actual chair to make it softer, and two comfortable ones, but not as posh, in front of the desk.

Cousken put his head into the room thru the opening in the door and looked around. Amazden was nowhere to be seen.

“Hello?” There was no reply. He pushed the door open, and entered slowly from the dark corridor, looking around.

“Amazden?” Still no reply. He felt as if the alligator’s eyes were following him as he moved closer to the desk. He has been in this situation before, and was very cautious not to let himself be surprised again. But then, as he was moving closer to the chair to sit down and wait for his superior, he noticed the artifacts lying on the desk and almost chocked.

Cousken wasn’t a man easy to impress. His past life was spent in splendor, surrounded by riches gained during wars. He also took part in those wars, witnessing the grand battles and vast armies first hand. His colleagues, both from the past and the present, commanded powers able to summon demons, control angels and move mountains. And yet, what he saw on the desk made his eyes go wide.

It’s not that the total value of the artifacts on the table was enough to buy a rather big country. It’s what they represented and what possibilities they gave. For example, the Crystal Ball of Skorn was the most powerful one known to him in existence on this plane of reality. You could even watch what the witches in Sto Lat were doing in the bath with it. Not that they ever did anything exciting or as if you wanted to watch them at all.

The Crone’s Claw, a little wand that had unlimited charges of your own and personal Magic Missile, was lying supported on the orb. The Succubus skull, the Lich’s Wand, the orb known as the Dimensional Shard (opening doors that most mortal men are not meant to open) and even the Boneshade. All there, lying on the table. Of course the whole building and the room were protected with powerful wards so that only selected people might enter, but still, he was already there and if he wished it, he could have taken what he wanted.

As he was gawking at the objects, halfway in his sit, he felt it. First, a breath on his ear, and then the sensation that you get when someone kisses your neck. Quickly he spun around his left shoulder out of reach, hopefully, from his invisible assailant, and spread his arms out to protect himself.

“Okay now!” He said a little bit louder than he wanted “I told you to cut that out!” He was backing up towards the bookshelves.

“Come now” Said a dimmed voice from and undistinguished direction “I know you like it”

“Well, yes, generally, but not in this, particular case” Cousken was uneasy and it showed. He frantically moved his hands in a half circle in front of himself, trying to find the invisible person, and was getting closer to the bookshelves.

“Why not? I know you play on this field too” The voice came from a totally different direction than he had expected, and he spun around again to face it.

“Well yes, that’s true. It’s not the field I don’t like, it’s the particular player, I told you!” Now his back was against the bookshelves, and he clinged to them.

“We’ll see about that” said the voice from right in front of him. He heard the sound of someone putting their hand on the bookshelf just above his shoulder. And then, someone kissed him…
