Ugh.

Up till 5am with some weird stomachachey, crampy, weasels-gnawing-in-my-belly pain that I could neither explain nor treat, so I just wimpered in a ball until I fell asleep. The pain was still there when I woke up at 11, I said "Aw, hell NO!" to that, and pretended to sleep some more, so that the pain would see that I was no fun and leave. It's still lurking now, but since it feels like a muscle thing, and not an actual eating thing, I think I'd be good for some tea and grapefruit this...er, afternoon.

Ah, the sentimentality that resides in a a grapefruit. My surrogate mom worked her ass off to keep us going - she got up most mornings around 4am. After getting the house ready, she'd wake us up with breakfast. Nothing fancy, usually grits, oatmeal, something else made from scratch. Every once in a while, we'd get grapefruit halves, with each segment individually cut, ready for those cool little special spoons with the serrated edges.

How long did it take her to do that for three (sometimes more) kids, plus herself? How much easier would it have been to plunk down some Lucky Charms, or throw some Pop-Tarts at us while we flew out the door?

Ryan & I had dinner here on Wednesday (I cooked - I know!), and in addition to watching the Redneck Comedy Tour Show (Larry the Cable Guy - I think Ryan now classifies "Get-r-Done" as foreplay), we watched Cloak & Dagger, that really cheesy 80's spy movie. Well, we watched most of it....um, I'm pretty sure I heard the majority of the salient plot points.

So, though my week has been pretty shitty on some levels, it's been pretty good on others.

boy, memories, health, family
