Phone for England?

My current phone plan (AT&T) is now up, and I'm going to look for another plan/phone.

If/when I go to England, I would like to have a phone that will work over there, or at least a SIM card that can transfer to a UK phone.

Ideas?

I don't believe you can transfer your SIM to a UK phone to use it over there. What happens is that you buy a phone that can accept a UK SIM.

Actually if your phone uses sim cards, you just walk into any phone store in UK, and buy a uk sim for your phone. OR you can buy a prepaid phone in uk for about $40 and just buy minute cards as you go. Thats what A & I did last year, and now I have the phone to take with me when I goto UK in Aug. I just buy new mins. And prepaid in UK is cheap, about 6c a minute
