A/N: This is set around the time that Taguchi actually did hurt his knee and was worried about this.
I have not even posted in a while and even if this is such a short little fic I feel accomplished to actually have posted something so-
It was the first time that he had seen Taguchi cry.
The two of them were alone in the hospital night after Koki had left for the night, playing a game of cards to pass the time since Taguchi couldn’t sleep. Nakamaru was usually always the one there, regardless of the time. When Taguchi was lonely or he couldn’t sleep because of the pain, it was always him that was there for a few different reasons.
That night in particular was a bad one, and Nakamaru could sense it by Taguchi’s distracted look and the amount of time he took to play a card. Nakamaru stayed patient, knowing that if something was wrong Taguchi would just say it.
“What if I never dance again?” He asked quietly, breaking the silence that had fallen over them.
“These doctors know what they’re doing; as long as you listen to them you’ll be fine.” Taguchi looked down, falling silent again and clutching at the cards in his grip.
“I’m scared Yucchi…” The crack in his voice was enough to show the truth in his statement. Nakamaru frowned, hearing Taguchi take a few deep breaths, bringing his free hand to cover his eyes. His eyes widened. Seeing someone like Taguchi cry was really a shock to him.
“I’m sorry,” he said in a shaky voice. Nakamaru immediately moved closer to sit on the edge of the bed, placing his hand on Taguchi’s back as a form of attempted comfort, rubbing it slowly.
“Don’t be; just trust me when I say that you’ll be as good as new. I don’t know when, but you will.” He said in a low voice. “It’s okay…You’ll be okay.” Taguchi was shaking under his touch, and it almost broke his heart to see happy-go-lucky Taguchi like this; in this much pain. The man in the hospital bed fell silent, but Nakamaru felt a small tug on his sleeve, looking down to notice Taguchi was clinging onto it, looking up as he gave Nakamaru a weak smile.
“Even trying to smile now,” Nakamaru sighed softly, but returned the smile despite how worried he felt, his arm wrapping around Taguchi’s shoulder. “You’ll get the surgery, and you’ll get better.”
“Do you promise…?”
“I promise.”
