Jake was only hiding a little bit. It wasn't that he didn't want to see his father. He did. He just didn't want to explain Mikey's call home, or meet Lau, or in fact, do anything right now but play GTA and steal cars.
"I bet we will be eaten by a gigantic snake or something. Or blown up," he said gloomily, and stole another car. "It's been far too peaceful recently. Yeah, okay, kids all over the place. Oh god the kids. But they aren't really dangerous, except when they make phonecalls home and dad's going to kill me, isn't he?"
