There were boxes upon boxes of decorations but not one of them had been open. They filled nearly the entire living room except for the space currently occupied by the large evergreen tree; delivered that very morning courtesy of her future mother-in-law. Since there was a tree that meant it was time to get the boxes out of the basement storage and so Sally had dragged every single one of them up to the apartment while Mikey was at school.

She had hoped seeing the tree and the boxes would cheer the boy up. If anything it seemed to make him even further depressed. Not that she could blame him; she felt the same way.

"He isn't gonna see it," Mikey muttered, pushing one of the boxes so he could sit on the couch. He was scowling at the tree, a perfect imitation of his father's annoyance. "Stupid Guinea Pigs."

"New Guinea," Sally corrected and sat down on the couch beside him. "We could always take a picture of it, make a video..." Mikey was shaking his head, arms crossed to show that he didn't like the idea. She reached out and brushed his hair out of his eyes. "I want him home too, baby."

Mikey leaned into her touch for a moment before standing. "I hate Christmas," he grumbled and stomped off to his room.

(Christmas, baby please come home)
