The temperature in the room goes up with the moisture level until it crests and breaks and they settle into exhausted sleep. She lies on her back, hair a mess in spikes and sweat, legs splayed under the sheets. He lies on his side with one arm over her waist and his back to the wall.
She works with the children he works to save. It's an equitable arrangement, both of them coming home sometimes silent and withdrawn. There are things she can't talk about because of privilege, and he accepts that. There are things he can't talk about because it's an ongoing investigation.
