[ct] 37.1 - treat your partner to something

“This is fuckin’ crazy.”

“So are you, shut up.”

“Yeah, but I’m also cute. People are starin’, Chan, I can feel it…”

Giggling, Channing kept her arm linked securely through his as she steered the blindfolded Sal through the crowded casino, gratefully passing into the corridors of the hotel shops. “Will you just shut up and keep walking? And no getting loose again, you nearly decapitated that elderly couple last time.”

With a sigh, he finally relented and allowed her to steer him through the maze until they emerged outside again. She could see the frown of confusion etched on his features, but held firm as they continued along the path leading to their ultimate destination.

“You’re tense.”

“I’m blindfolded, baby, whatcha expect?”

“Will you just relax?” she huffed with a grin, leaning up to kiss his cheek. “This is supposed to be a present for your help with the Samurai routine.”

“But I didn’t do nothin’!”

“You finally convinced me to stop being so stubborn and use cover. Not only that, but your stupid nonsense with the cape inspired me. The crowds adore the trick, and I haven’t gotten slammed with the katana once since I changed the routine. For that? You get a reward.”

“One that puts a fuckin’ bandana over my eyes and has you in blue jeans?”

Channing paused at the turnstile before them to eye her admittedly casual outfit of blue jeans, red tank top, and matching strappy sandals that allowed for the simple silver toe ring she wore. “What’s wrong with me in blue jeans?”

“Nothin’…just wish I could be checkin’ out yer ass is all…”

Scowling, she swatted his arm and let him yelp dramatically before pausing to make a hushed purchase, then leading him onward and quietly past an attendant she’d spoken with earlier, guiding him straight into a row of standing-room ‘seating’ before she finally reached up to loosen his blindfold.

“You gave me a means to realize a vision, my darling boy.” She murmured in his ear, unknotting the bandana and slowly tugging it from his eyes. “So this is my gift to you: a little slice of magic you’ll never see in my show.”

She watched as he blinked and squinted, eyes adjusting to the bright light and arid, vibrant coloring of the crystal blue water and cheerful yellows of the massive water tank that was spread out before them.

A moment later, two dolphins leapt from the water, arcing perfectly through the air before cutting the glassy surface and submerging again.

“Holy *shit!*”

The awe in his voice and wonderment in his smile made her chest tight as she watched him take in his first look at the live dolphins living at the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy. No wind blew, but she felt the cool breeze of power whisper through her blood and flesh, from his heart to hers and knew she’d chosen the right way to thank him.

Reaching up, she ran a hand over his hair, then leaned up to kiss his cheek as other guests filed in after them, the private moment leaving them as their voices and energies filled the air.

“Baby…I don’t…Jesus, you see them? That’s fuckin’ beautiful!”

“Yes,” she agreed, still staring at his face as a staff member grabbed a microphone below them and began the orientation for the self-guided tour, “it absolutely is.”
