23.1: Spark

He was sitting at the lunch table and he was staring at her. She’d felt the sharp point of his gaze all morning and she had every intention of bawling him out for it. She stormed over to his table, both palms coming down flat on the surface with a thud. Her expression was furious until her eyes met his. He was looking at her s if she were something to worship. That made her brow furrow, her face soften and she stepped back slightly. There was something else though, beneath the worship. It was the spark of recognition. An electricity that flicked between them and pulled them together.
“Hi, I’m Cady.”
The space between them got smaller and smaller the more time they spent together. He insisted on friends and she pushed for more. The way he looked at her, the way her whole body tingled when he touched her, that wasn’t friendly and she wasn’t in the practice of settling. He was stubborn and quiet, pushing her away and pulling her closer at the same time because neither one of them could ignore that spark between them. Months later he finally kissed her, because it turned out she was more stubborn than him.
And that spark, it’s still there. She tingles when he touches her and she makes him feel warm, safe and protected.
