damage.

It's been one of those days.

You know the kind, those days where you have a thousand and one things to do and not nearly enough time to do any of it. You prioritize, and it never quite works out right, and not at all how you planned. You're tired, your head hurts, you still have five hundred things you were supposed to get done today that'll have to get done tomorrow (you hope), you don't want to talk about it. You just want to get home, to your dog and your slippers and your fiancé's good cooking.

Your fiancé that's driving, after you threw the keys at him, and he keeps looking sideways at you like he wants to ask you something. You don't have time to go home to the dog and the slippers and the hot dinner yet, because you have a doctor's appointment in fifteen minutes (the fertility specialist), and you're anxious about being late (that's all, you tell yourself how nervous you aren't). Not enough to tell him to speed up, and he's too thoughtful for that, anyway. He catches hold of your hand at a stoplight and you sigh, tilt your head against the back of your seat and gaze unfocusing upwards. He runs his thumb over your hand and the space where you're going to be wearing the ring, just as soon as you have time to get it resized, and when the light turns red somewhere and green for you he lets go.

Unfortunately, the red light doesn't stop the man whose truck plows into the driver's side of your car.

You don't really remember.
