"Out of the Blue" Question

Nov 09, 2011 08:45

As good as season 4 has been (and it has been amazing), I am still stuck on season 3 episode 19 - the incredible episode that is "Out of the Blue". I do not know why I love this episode so much, but I do. Anyway, so I know we have discussed this episode before, but while trying to write my story about the episode, I began wondering about the ( Read more... )

Okay, first, I'm freaked out. You post a discussion/question on the day I finally come back to fandom (after three weeks of RLing). It's more than being on the same page... That's telepathy right there! o.o Perhaps we should have our brains analyzed by Magnus?

Now, second, you and your questions. Hm. I had a thought around the time of the episode, but I haven't discussed Sanctuary with anyone in weeks, so I'm a little sore on thoughts and opinions...

I think we need to think about what happened to Helen before OOTB. You know, to try to understand her state of mind. (As if that was ever possible with Magnus.)
- She just went to Carentan. She blamed herself for all the people that died there when she reset the time, and probably still blames herself since she doesn't know it's Adam yet.
- She lost the holographic map to destroy the Vamp Queen. Not that it changed anything really, but it was a huge source of information and now she lost it. She could have used it to contact Hollow Earth and her father, though I think she might know how to do that without the map. So, not really important, maybe?
- And before that, episodes weren't centered on Magnus, so we don't know what happened to her really. John disappeared at the end of episode 11. She could still be worried about him, but I don't think so. I think she learned that John always comes back some day. (Proven by ITB.)

But I think Helen, despite her brave façade and everything, is one of the most stressed person in the world. I mean, she has an entire Network to take care of and the last year has been a stressful one! (Finding out about the energy elemental inside John (yes, I still consider that inside the year :P), Kali, the wave, Adam, Hollow Earth) Give the woman a break FCOL! Maybe the anxiety pills were something from her 'real life', hence why she started taking them when she stopped painting. Because painting was associated with her life in the dream world.

Wow. I never seem to be able to stop babbling.
I hope I made sense. If not, it'll at least give you something to think about.

We are on the same page quite a lot of the time! I love it! I was sitting here at my desk at work and all of a sudden it just hit me - the meds - what do the meds mean!!??

I get what you are saying and it gave me a thought. In the dream world, she paints instead of saving the world. When she stops painting, she goes back to the medication. So, in real life, saving the world is her drug - it is what keeps her going, or she would have to stop and think about everything and then she would get depressed. Which makes me wonder what on earth did she do for those 113 years!! So, in the dream world, she has become unfocused on her painting - it isn't enough for her anymore - but she doesn't know that she is supposed to be out saving the world - she she needs the medication. Wow - and you said you were babbling :)

Well, I guess I will have to think about it later - need to work on work stuff now.
