Water woes

So, yes, we're still under a boil water advisory. It's a real pain in the ass, but I just keep reminding myself of a few things

1. Most importantly, at least we live in a country where we have access to clean water at all - from the tap or otherwise

2. It could be worse - we still have power, whereas lots of parts of BC still don't

3. The coffee shops are selling coffee again.

It's kind of pathetic. Lots of the press about the water problem focuses on the coffee problem - but it's true! Everyone is tired and irritated without the caffeine they've come to depend on - whether it's pyschological or real, it's definitely affecting us. At work, our hostess brought us some instant coffee to mix into boiled water, which was very thoughtful, but have you drank that shit? It smells like...I won't go there. Let's just say I mixed myself up a mug but poured it out before I even tasted it, and settled for a Diet Coke instead.

The problem also illuminates the fact that we would be totally screwed in a real emergency like an earthquake. Seriously.

Just talking about water is making me feel parched. Availability of bottled water seems to ebb and flow. Safeway has been completely pillaged, so today I resorted to buying three small bottles of Fiji from Shoppers and then another three of Aquafina from a vending machine at the college across the street from my house.

Mouth...so...dry...off for a bedtime drink!
