Oooh, It's Shiny

I downloaded Google's entry into the browser wars, Chrome, a little earlier today and I have to say, it's pretty slick.  If you're on a PC, I suggest giving it a shot (no Mac yet, but they're working on it).  I will say it's not like "what a browser should have been all along" or anything hyperbolic like that, but "slick" is a pretty good description.

The thing is much faster I've noticed, and one of the cooler behind the scenes features is that each tab is really it's own browser, so if you hit a bad site that would usually take your whole browser down, just the tab goes.  Plus, there is apparently all kind of security features built in that were a little too complex for my immediate understanding, but I'll give the comic book they used to sneak the announcement out yesterday another look at some point.

It's stuff like this, that is a whole browser that they get pretty much right the first time, that kind of scares me about Google sometimes.  I think if this were the late 30's/early 40's and people were looking for a way to make nuclear bombs work properly, it would be these kind of people who would pull it off.
